Zipolite is on the Pacific Ocean in the southern part of Mexico. You best bet is to travel overnight to Oaxaca City from Mexico City and then take a bus, which will take the better part of a day, to get to the beach.

Both cities are filled with brilliant museums and great food. Mexico City, however, is very congested, and can be quite intimidating. Oaxaca is much more accessible, and the region is known for its cuisine. If you wander around the central market, you will be surrounded by the most amazing array of tropical fruit and vegetables, coffee, chocolate, and spices.

The beach is lined with cafes that specialize in freshly caught fish and cerveza. There is a local speciality which involves drinking an ice cold lager with lime and chilli sauce. It may sound disgusting now, but after a long day at the beach all you really want is a nice cold michelada.
