Thailand – Heaven on Earth

Thailand - Heaven on Earth

When it comes to a budget vacation, nothing beats Thailand! Whether its sun and sand, shopping or monasteries you’re looking for this summer, you will find it all in amazing Thailand!
Being a budget traveler, I’m always on the lookout for good deals that offer value for money. When I discovered Thailand, I was floored! There are plenty of budget hotels in major cities like Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket that offer better hospitality services than some of the best 5 stars in the world! Its better to go during the months of September-October or around April when the weather’s just right and the actual tourist season hasn’t kicked in. This way you can plan a longer vacation with your friends or family.
Ideally the places to visit are Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Ko Samui. The latter two are the most beautiful islands you’ll ever see with green waters, clean sandy beaches and amazing sights around. Bangkok is the ideal place to shop. From designer suit fabrics, to trendy footwear and funky accessories and bags, its a shopper’s paradise! Its a country with a high percentage of women so shopping is a given! The nightlife of Bangkok and Pattaya is not to be missed!
If you want to visit Buddhist monasteries and temples, head to Ayuthaya, an hour’s drive from Bangkok. This is known as the temple city and the beauty of the Thai culture will truly amaze you. So what are you still waiting for? Catch the first flight out to Thailand and party like never before!

A Piece of History

A Piece of History

Pension Mesa in Guatemala City is a piece of living history and if you have the chance, put your things in self storage and head here. It is reputed that Che actually stayed here during the brief rule of the leftist president Jacobo Arbenz, who was later over thrown in a CIA sponsored coup. The first time I went it was with a friend who all she remembered was that it was at the corner of tenth avenue and tenth street. If you know the city, you will know that it is a complicated web of streets and avenues, but remember that it is in zone one, get close and then ask directions. This place absolutely screams of banana republics, revolutionaries and travellers that have been gone for a little bit too long. The rooms surround a court yard and at night the guests get drunk and swap stories, try to be cool and you will hear the greatest tales here! There is a small cafe that does breakfast and a brief paramour actually proposed marriage to me, one morning when I came into the room with the Guatemalan breakfast delicacy of fried plantains with fresh cream and cheese, and a steaming cup of the local coffee. I met some friends here that I will keep and it is a great place to hook up with people if you want to head into the interior for further adventures. I went to Mexico by bus and the voyage through the mountains was so beautiful I thought I saw god.
